Sponge Darts and Outdoor Fun
By wibadgercamp
Seeing as the heat always finds its way back to us, here are a few ways to possibly cool down this summer!
Size of group: 1-10
Materials Needed: Bright Chalk, Bucket, Sponges, and clothes you don’t mind getting wet!
Directions:
Start by Drawing a simple target on the ground. (Can be simple or have score values) Now draw a line in which the throwers cannot pass to throw so everyone has a fair opportunity. A Bucket should also be placed at the line. All participants take turns throwing their sponges into the target area and add up the points. Each participant should have three sponges of one color or just use one set of sponges for everyone and keep track of them. You can add different variations to any game such as throwing it into a bucket or through something.
Variation # 2: Another game to play is sponge toss. Sponge toss is where you set two buckets about 6 to 8ft apart. One participant stands on the far side of the bucket looking at each other. On each side the buckets are filled with water. One side starts off by having the sponge on their side and begins by throwing it to the other person. The objective of this game is to get each other very wet while also making it so the other person drops the sponge when it is tossed to them.
Variation # 3 of sponge toss is a life-size human target. This involves someone standing/Sitting in the middle of the lawn and the main goal is to hit this person with a sponge from about 10ft away. This should not be done by throwing the sponge very hard but lighter so no one gets hurt. This is usually well-received when it is a camp counselor and or a house staff they are trying to get wet!

Jello Worms
By wibadgercamp
Activity Name: Jello Worms
Introduction: Everybody loves a treat that’s delicious and it’s even better when you can use it to gross out other people. This is a project for a small group that can bring out the camp theme and make a nice snack for a hot day.
Size: 2-4
Supplies: 150 flexible straws, 1 package raspberry jello, whipping cream, 3 packages unflavored gelatin, mason jar, green food coloring, mixing bowl.
Objective: Project completion, teachable moments, hands-on work, healthy eating and creativity.
Description: First, combine jello and gelatin in a large bowl. Then pour in 3 cups boiling water and stir until all gelatin is dissolved and place in fridge for 20 minutes. While the mix is cooling, stretch all straws so they are straight and fully extended. Place all straws in the mason jar with the bendy end facing down. Add ¾ cup whipping cream to the jello mixture and stir until combined. Next use a measuring cup to pour the mix into the tops of all the straws (NOTE: Go slow because it can cause the mixture to erupt if you go too fast). Leave the straws in the fridge for 8 hours. After that, take them out and run each straw under warm water for a few seconds. You can then pinch the straw starting from the end that is not full of jello and push down to pop the worm out of the straw. You have to do this for each straw. By the end, you’ll have a bowl of edible worms.
