Activity Name: Mutant Plant Experiment
Introduction: Conducting an experiment is a great way to keep people engaged, especially when many normal activities are prohibited. This experiment combines biology with vivid color for a short but rewarding activity.
Size: 2-4
Supplies: Celery stalks (one per participant), water, jars (one per participant) and food coloring of choice.
Objective: Hands-on learning, expanding conceptual knowledge, teaching opportunities.
Description: Fill each jar halfway to three-fourths of the way full of water. Allow each participant to choose the color they’d like to use. Next, have each person stick a celery stalk into the colored water. Let them check back every once in a while to see the change in the celery’s color as it absorbs the food coloring.
