Ready to get a little messy?
Size of group: 1-4
Materials needed: Cardboard, Masking tape, Newspaper, Small Dixie Cups, Flour, Water
Objective: Fine and Gross Motor Skills, Project Completion, Decision Making, Visual Learning, Letter Recognition
Directions: First we have to cut out 2 of the same letters from two pieces of cardboard. Use the first one you cut as a template for the second so they come out the same. Now place one on the table and place small dixie cups along the inside edges so you can place the other one on top. Tape together and leave no space between the letters untaped.
Now we need to mix the paper Mache. Mix 1 part flour and 2 parts water in a bowl. Make sure all clumps are gone and this can be stored in the fridge for a few days. Letting it rest will result in the best outcome.
After your mixture is finished, now rip the newspaper into small strips or cut them. Add a few strips to the mixture of water and flower and run the strip of paper through your fingers to remove the excess mixture. Cover the entire letter with the strips and layer it on there. Let these dry once they are completely covered with enough paper. This will harden and become a solid structure.
Now we can paint it and design it as the artist would like!
