Activity Name: Block Scavenger Hunt

Introduction: Scavenger hunts are useful for providing a stimulating activity for participants and creating both teamwork, cooperation and healthy competition in children. In this activity, we have a variation that will appeal to participants of a variety of ages.

Size: 3-5

Supplies: Blocks of various sizes and colors (one color per participant), sheets of construction paper in corresponding colors.

Objective: healthy competition, competitive play, sportsmanship and support, spatial reasoning, multi-level task completion.

Description: Each participant is assigned a color and each colored sheet of construction paper is set out on a table. Each person then searches for hidden block pieces of their color (and may not move pieces of other colors) to find a predetermined number (ex. 10 per person). The first to find all their pieces must put them on the construction paper for counting, then completes the task by constructing something from their blocks. The winner completed the activity first.

Dying the Pasta- This Pasta Can also be used in Sensory bins and Art Projects. This is also how you can color white rice.

Materials Needed-

• Pasta- Dry
• Rubbing Alcohol
• Food Coloring
• Baking Sheet/Tray
• Tissue Paper/Parchment Paper
• Ziplock Bags- 1 gallon size

How-to

1. Put the dried pasta into the ziplock bags.
2. Add 2 to 3 drops of food coloring and 1 drop of rubbing alcohol into the bags. Seal them and shake well till each pasta piece gets completely coated.
3. Place the tissue papers or parchment paper on the tray and then empty the colored pasta on them for drying.

Making the Necklace

 

Materials needed

• Plain and Dyed Macaroni
• Yarn, String, Fishing Wire, or any other item to make a necklace out of

How-to

1. Cut the cotton thread of the desired length and start stringing the pasta pieces one by one.
2. Tie both the sides of the string once you have reached the end.

Paper airplanes are a past-time almost as old as planes themselves. Along with making airplanes, you can make a game of it that is easy to play and easy to clean up.

Size of Group: Any

Equipment: White paper, markers, construction paper, and tape.

Objective: hand-dexterity, hand-eye coordination, peer interaction, following instructions, good sportsmanship.

 

Description: First, have each participant make their own paper airplanes. There are hundreds of ways to do this, so let each person find their own and get creative. Next, each participant can take time to put names and designs on each of their fleets. Recommendation: have each person make one large one and several smaller ones. Next, use construction paper to make one or more airstrips in the play area. From a designated launching point, each participant takes turns trying to land their planes on an airstrip; the smaller planes are worth three points and the larger ones worth seven points. The one with the most points after all planes have landed is the winner.

It’s a week night. Everybody is tired and hungry, and something sweet could hit the spot. How about some brownies? Don’t worry, these are easy to make and delicious!

Size of Group: 2-5

Equipment: four large eggs, 1 jar Nutella, one baking pan (8×8 preferably), parchment paper, cooking spray, measuring cups, mixing bowl, whisk or mixer, spatula.

Objectives: cooking skills, healthy eating (you can teach while cooking), hand dexterity, and coordination.

 

Description: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking dish with paper and spray down with cooking spray. Whisk all four eggs for 6-8 minutes (you can take turns!) until they are lemon-colored, microwave Nutella for 1 minute and stir every fifteen seconds, then combine with eggs until they are thoroughly mixed. Pour into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. After it cools, top with anything that sounds good: fruit, chocolate, powdered sugar and you’re done!

Since we are at home so much lately, making our house prettier is a good idea as we have time to do so! Here is a simple Wreath to do while you have some extra time. You can make this wreath flowery or to spread hope during COVID-19, why not make them hearts!

Materials Needed:

Craft paper – 5-6 colors including green
Cardstock paper – any color, for the wreath base
Pencil or pen – for tracing the template
Scissors
Craft glue or glue stick

Select a colored craft paper for the flower and cut a 12 inches long strip (1 to 2 inches wide).

Create small and even accordion folds on the strip.

Create zigzag patterns along any one sides of the folded strip. Use the folds as guides for each zigzag.

Use craft glue to join both sides (width) of the accordion folded strip. Now we have an accordion folded roll.

Hold the plain side of the roll and press it towards the center.

Flatten the roll by holding all the folds of the plain side and pressing them towards the center.

Cut out 2 round shapes from yellow colored papers and glue one of those on the center of the pressed paper.

Similarly glue the other circle on the other side of the paper to secure the flattened piece (accordion folded).

Similarly, create more flowers to make the wreath. I made 8 flowers for the wreath.

Trace and cut out leaf patterns from green colored craft papers.

Determine the size of the wreath and cut out a round base of at least 2 inches width.

Start to glue the flowers on the base first. Make sure that the color combination of the flowers is nice.

Done adding all the flowers? Now glue the leaves between the flowers, on the base.

Allow the glue to dry once you are satisfied with the pattern. Attach a hanging mechanism at the back side and done!
